On November 19, 2021, the U.S. House passed H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act. Aspects of the $1.75 billion spending proposal hold the potential to fundamentally transform America’s early care and education landscape – creating universal prekindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds, expanding access to affordable, high-quality child care, and addressing the compensation needs of the early childhood workforce.

In preparation for debate in the U.S. Senate, The Hunt Institute has released Child Care and Prekindergarten in The Build Back Better Act: A Guide for Policymakerswhich condenses roughly 100 pages of pertinent bill language into six pages of question and answer-style summary. The current version reflects both the version of the Act passed by the House and amendments proposed by the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

We will update this document regularly as the Act works its way through the legislative process. Click the document below to read this resource.
