School-Based Healthcare Can Address Children’s Unmet Health Needs: Models, Evidence, and Policies

While the COVID-19 pandemic spotlighted and uncovered new issues pertaining to student health, policymakers and educators have struggled with identifying, funding, and implementing strategies to support the physical and mental health of students well before the pandemic.

How can we meet students where they are and provide the services that they need? The Hunt Institute has partnered with Dr. Sarah Komisarow, Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Economics and a Faculty Affiliate of the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University, on her policy brief examining the state of school-aged children’s health and healthcare access in the U.S., the link between children’s health and educational performance, as well as models and examples of school-based healthcare.
