Supporting School and District Leaders

Too many students are struggling to read proficiently. National assessments show that most students are not reading proficiently, and demand is rising for stronger teacher preparation, high-quality instructional materials, and evidence-based practices rooted in the science of reading. The Hunt Institute supports these efforts by bringing evidence-based literacy practices to the forefront of policy discussions and classroom preparation.

Empowering Teachers through Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction

The Hunt Institute partners with state agencies, districts, and educator preparation programs to help leaders move from insight to action. Through research, expert guidance, and collaborative networks, we support policymakers and practitioners as they strengthen their literacy systems and improve outcomes for students.

The Hunt Institute helps states build the literacy systems students deserve—rooted in research, strengthened by collaboration, and sustained by strong leadership.

The Path Forward

The Path Forward

In 2020, The Hunt Institute partnered with The Barksdale Reading Institute and The Belk Foundation to improve early reading outcomes across the nation. The initiative, The Path Forward for Teacher Preparation and Licensure in Early Literacy, empowers states to embed the science of reading in teacher preparation, teacher licensure, and educator preparation program approval.
