People of color make up a small percentage of people in the arts. This results in a lack of representation onstage, in art galleries, and in music. Students of color begin facing challenges in the arts at a young age. Having access to and proper funding for the arts in schools is critical for all students, but performing and artistic spaces are still mainly white. Both cultural and financial barriers are at play when considering why students of color do not continue their arts education.
