In the 2021 Gallup poll, 7.1% of American adults identified as LGBTQ. However, younger generations are leading the way in expressing their freedom and liberation. Despite these growing numbers, research shows that 42% of LGBQT youth expressed seriously considering suicide; with the numbers being even higher amongst trans youth. Outside of the educational support needs, studies suggest our nation is experiencing a mental health crisis amongst youth and college-aged LGBTQ persons. Many equate this to the COVID-19 Pandemic and legislative attacks that often target trans individuals.
