One of the biggest criticisms of gifted-education programming is that it widens gaps between students – often along racial lines. A key reason for this is that gifted students of color, particularly Black and Hispanic children, are likely to go unidentified and unsupported. However, these efforts must also be made to improve the experiences of students of color within the gifted classroom. Students from minoritized populations often deal with imposter syndrome, stereotype threat, racial ambassadorship, and other unique challenges in gifted programs. For gifted programs to be equitable and inclusive, educators need to rethink their approach to teaching gifted learners.

On Tuesday, July 25th, The Hunt Insititute will host a #RaceAndEducation webinar where experts on giftedness, school experiences of students of color, and the intersection between the two discuss ways to better support all children.
