Students of color disproportionately experience unfair discipline practices that remove them from the classroom, exacerbated by school policing and lack of investments in care and trauma-informed approaches. Research on this topic often focuses on boys, overlooking Latinx girls who are 28% more likely to be incarcerated than their white peers. While research shows that having educators of color in schools can serve as a protective factor for students experiencing disproportionate school discipline practices, increasing the number of Latinx teachers in schools is a key strategy to help ensure that schools are safe places for girls to heal and thrive.

Join The Hunt Institute on Tuesday, September 27th, at 2pm EST, for a #RaceAndEducation webinar about how recruiting and supporting Latinx teachers can help mitigate the criminalization of Latina students and close discipline gaps.
