States across the country are working hard to make the Common Core State Standards more accessible for students enrolled in dual-language programs. Currently in these programs, “as much as 90 percent of content” is taught in languages other than English, underscoring the need to define how the Standards apply to language learning beyond English. According to an Education Week article by Lesli Maxwell, several school districts have begun the process of “translating the Standards into Spanish, as well as provid[ing] “linguistic augmentation” to address differences between the English language and Spanish language such as the use of accent.”
