The Hunt Institute’s 2007 Governors Education Symposium: Education | The Economic Engine of Global Competition, was held April 11-13 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The convening, co-chaired by Governors Jim Hunt, Janet Napolitano and Tim Pawlenty, brought together governors, first ladies and education advisors from 17 states to discuss about college readiness, alignment of K-12 and higher education, college affordability and accountability, out-of-school and extended learning opportunities, and teacher compensation and performance. Resource experts presented key research findings and possible policy solutions for each of these topics, and governors discussed successes and challenges in their respective states.
