The 2012 Governors Education Symposium: Advance America | A Commitment to Education & the Economy was held on April 29-30, in Cary, North Carolina. The Hunt Institute and the Foundation for Excellence in Education co-hosted the event, chaired by former governors Jim Hunt and Jeb Bush. The event served as a valuable opportunity for the governors in attendance to gain greater insight into challenges facing public education and the sound investments that make for systemic improvement. Eight governors and team members from 13 states and territories discussed the challenges that must be overcome to meet more rigorous academic expectations for students.
