In The New York Times editorial, “Republicans Versus the Business Community,” editorial writer Brent Staples conveys that the Republican National Committee’s recent criticism of the Common Core State Standards has now placed them in a compromising position with businesses.
“The R.N.C.’s ill-advised attack on the Common Core has placed it in conflict with the business community in general and specifically the Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies with more than $7.3 trillion in annual revenues and nearly 16 million employees.”
Staples also states that the R.N.C. is not only taking a strong stance against the Standards now, but are also encouraging the states to reject the Standards.
Luckily, according to Staples, the Business Roundtable is not showing any signs of forsaking the Common Core.
