2018 State Laws Reflect Robustness in National Charter Policy | As states unveil new charter laws and update existing policies, the National Alliance reports an overall strengthening of charter policies, especially with respect to authorization processes and the elimination charter school caps.
Opportunities for Improvement Still Exist | The National Alliance stresses that state charter policies should do more to ensure equitable funding for charter schools and to increase accountability for virtual charter schools.
Accountability is Key | Accountability for charter schools should be comparable to that of traditional public schools; however, charter schools should be given the opportunity to incorporate mission-specific metrics when applicable.
Charter Startups Need Support | Growth and development of high-quality charter schools require support and technical assistance from both authorizers and independent charter school organizations.
